Social media streaming plans vs Live Event hosting plans

The difference between Livepush social media streaming plans and live event hosting plans, and how to choose between them.

Written by Wahaj Dar

Livepush plans come in two categories. This article explains the difference so you can pick the right one.

  1. Social media streaming plans:
Free Plan, Pro Plan, Creators Plan, Business Plan.

  2. Live Event hosting plans:
Events Plan, Studio Plan, Network Plan, Enterprise Plan

The quickest way to decide: where do your viewers watch? If they watch on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch or another platform, you need a social media streaming plan. If they watch on your own website, you need a live event hosting plan.

Social media streaming plans

Free, Pro, Creators and Business. Compare social media streaming plans.

These plans are built around distribution. You send one stream to Livepush and we push it out to every platform you have connected.

What you get:

  • Live stream to 40+ platforms simultaneously

  • Publish from any RTMP or SRT encoder (OBS, vMix, Wirecast, XSplit, Zoom and others)

  • Upload videos and run them as pre-recorded live streams

  • Run multiple live streams at once, each with its own source and destinations

  • 24/7 schedule channels and video looping, from Creators upward

  • An embeddable web player for your own site

What they are not built for:

  • The web player on these plans is not delivered over our Akamai CDN, so it is not sized for a large website audience. The Free plan includes 50 GB of player bandwidth.

  • No direct HLS / M3U8 or DASH playback links

  • No adaptive bitrate (ABR) delivery included

Verdict: Choose a social media streaming plan when

Your audience watches on social platforms, and the website player is a secondary convenience rather than the main way people will watch.

Live event hosting plans

Events, Studio, Network and Enterprise. Compare live event hosting plans.

These plans include everything in social media streaming, plus the infrastructure to serve your own website. Live hosting is additive, not a replacement.

What you get on top:

  • A brandable live player on your own website

  • Akamai CDN delivery, built for large audiences

  • Direct HLS / M3U8 and DASH playback links, so your stream plays in any compatible player, smart TV app or custom integration

  • RTMP output links on every plan, SRT output from Studio upward

  • Cloud transcoding included, with adaptive bitrate (ABR) included on Network and available as an add-on below

  • A monthly bandwidth allowance instead of a viewer cap: 1 TB on Events, 3 TB on Studio, 8 TB on Network

  • Geo-blocking and domain restriction on your embed

Verdict: Choose a live event hosting plan when

Your viewers should stay on your website rather than being sent to a third-party platform, or you need a direct M3U8 link, or you expect an audience large enough that CDN delivery matters.

How bandwidth works

On live event hosting plans you are billed by bandwidth delivered to viewers, not by how many people watch at once. There is no concurrent viewer limit.

Your stream is never cut off mid-event. If you go past your monthly allowance, overage is billed at $0.033 per GB at the end of the period. Estimate your usage with the bandwidth calculator.

Can I have both?

Yes. Plan allowances stack, so if you already hold a social plan and only need to add hosted playback, adding a hosting plan alongside it is sometimes a better fit than upgrading a tier. Ask us on live chat and we will work out which is cheaper for your setup.
